The Leather and Footwear Sector represents 1 per cent of the total membership. The sector has the following sub-sectors:

  • Formal Large Footwear Enterprises: Production of shoes for various market segments and income groups (school, formal, tourist, export).
  • Informal Enterprises: Production of leather products such as shoes, gloves, school and travelling bags.
  • Medium Scale and Informal Leather Goods Enterprises:Production of working gloves (especially for horticulture farms and small-scale metal-working and engineering enterprises), school bags, travelling bags.
  • Small-scale Shoe Manufacturers: Production of shoes for lower income groups and school children.
  • Tanneries: Those involved in the tanning, currying, finishing, embossing and japanning of leather.
